Help me identify my 1st road bike, possibly a viner?

Retro Newbie
Hi, I recently got this off ebay as my 1st road bike. The seller told me that it is a Viner that was resprayed by harry halls Manchester 20 or so years ago. It is in the same colour scheme as this Viner record racing found here: http://buzzbombbicycles.wordpress.com/2 ... rbishing/#

But the cut outs on my bike are X shaped and the decals are "campione" perhaps the resprayer was trying to replicate the blue and yellow colour scheme?

It has good components so I think it must be a good quality frame and a cut out on the bottom bracket according to my dad suggests that it is European not British. It has shimano 105 gears and brakes, campag hubs, mavic wheels, cinelli bars, miche seat post (though that is stuck).

Cheers in advance. :)

Nice looking bike :)

I always wanted a Viner...........they appeared as Track frames on the 1970's Skoll Six Scene. All chrome and very slim stays and forks :)

The Viner frames I came across in the 70's had stars cut out of the lugs and not crosses. They might have changed later though.

The cable guides on the top tube point to a 80's frame but by that time a lot of the mechanism cable guides had migrated to below the bottom bracket..

Bit of a mystery all around then......

Thanks, yes Vincenzo (thats what ive called him) is quite a nice looking thing.

Ive read on many forums and seen on several Viners on the internet that the cutouts were stars or 3 circles (big, smaller, smallest).

After a bit more research I found these 3 threads about similar bikes (funnily enough also being passed off as viners) which has led to to the conclusion that it is a Cornelo. Apparently they were supposedly built by Colnago for Belgian wholesaler "Henk Kokke Sport".

FWIW: I've been told by a reputable shop that used to import Viner frames that the cross-shaped cutouts denote a Reynolds frame, whereas the stars indicate Columbus tubing.

As I mentioned it's a cracking looking bike and despite the provenance issues should ride like a classic italian stallion :)

The thickness of the paint looks quite thick and wonder if there is some chrome somewhere ?

If you are brave I'd scrape some paint from under the right chainstay just to check........buy a matching nail varnish from boots to cover any investigating LOL

And drop the stem a tad :)

who is the person in the pictur squatting like he / she is giving birth LOL

Oh so it could be a viner after all. Makes sense, as several supposed viners have the X and are then thought to be something else.

It rides beautifully, will look for chrome soon. I have abit of matching enamel paint that I used to touch up the few bits that needed it.

I like the stem as is, as im 6 foot and not used to drop bars.

As for the person giving birth lol, thats my mate from work messing about with his bike, rather unfortunate picture as his belly isnt that big in real life.

Thanks for the help lads. :D
