Why, because they attract too much attention to it when it's locked up?

More of an aesthetic thing really, not keen on the look, mainly because they're all over the frame.

Did you drill through the frame to fit that rear brake?

Starting off as a pretty mid-level NZ built frame with Mavic tubulars 105 gearset, Cherry brakes (yikes!), this was a $25 buy that gave its all to the cause...

42/16 on 170 cranks for easy trundling to the coffee shop, 700 x 28 for easy rolling but not riding a rail, Charge Bucket for arsecomfort, and a forgotten brand bar with a nice little curve. Brakes are bottom of the line Shimano road stuff (Tioga?) but work fine with the super light Cherry levers...

Fun easy first ss build. I may get to like this. Sorry for the bleak picture quality. Blame Nokia.

well, Kurious Oranj had its shakedown commute ride yesterday - 20km each way with a slight rise and fall.

Wow - this one-gear thing is fun! Once you get the idea that you cant keep changing up or down to suit an "ideal" cadence, you relax about the whole thing and just ride.

Better yet, nothing fell off the bike, everything (such as it is) works and the trip time was NO DIFFERENT to the same ride on my 6-speed commuter.

Now I have to build another for the wife...
