First gen Shimano 600 - this shouldn't be here...

I have no idea, but I have a full first gen 600 groupset on my 1984 Raleigh Corsa.

I think mine is first gen 600, it has indexing and aero brake levers.

IMO, this group is the most pleasing looking - the tricolour and Ultegra versions look cheap by comparison.

This is the only bike I have Shimano on...perhaps there's a Shimano expert on somewhere?

Would that be 600EX? That was the first indexed 600 group, but I thought there was a pre-index one? Maybe there was only 105 and Dura-Ace before that.

The components don't have EX on them, the rear mech has Shimano 600 SIS on it and looks a little Super Recordish.

Nice brakes with just Shimano 600 on them in black...headset, hubs, front mech the same - no EX.

So I don't know any more than that (had bike from new).

The components aren't at all fussy in design...classy actually.

there was at least a couple of versions of 600 before indexing and aero levers. i think 'original' and arabesque (which seems to be about as close to physcadelia that cycling ever got). see 27x14s post on 6100 chainset and follow the link through velobase. i've got some original 600 gear waiting to be built onto a bike and it is very nice solid looking gear.
