Sugino Tension Disc Issue

I have no experience of the disc, but speak from an engineering perspective and experience of some of the materials. The laminate sheet merely holds the kevlar 'strings' in place - I doubt it would affect the structural integrity of the wheel. Kevlar or aramid fibres are pretty inert - I doubt dirt ingress would have any impact - Kevlar is tough stuff. I'd actually build it into a wheel and keep an eye on the stray threads - I doubt you'll get sudden and catastrophic failure.
