Hi all,

I was just stripping out stuff, and thought to check the tyre sizes for replacement on my Raleigh. Front (very skinny) is 20x622, Rear is 25x622. The internal measument of both the wheels (rims) is 11-12 mm; the rear is stamped 700, but the front is not, and has lost its sticker :? The front actually looked to small!

This was not an expensive bike originally, so what might i fit? was thinking of 700-23. Would this be OK.

Last time i looked tyres were 27x 1.1/4

Thanks for any info or suggestions....

Dave

I'd stick to 25mm wide road tyres. 20mm are really only for time trial / track racing, and the cheap versions you find on older bikes are awful. I bet your old front tyre was narrower than the rim !

Get some decent Michelin, Continental, Hutchinson, Vittoria tyres in a 700 x 25mm. They'll be much more comfortable, and still very fast.
