Tech question: how to add derailer gears to a single speed

I might be nabbing a nice framed lady's bike to turn into a drop bar racer for my girlfriend. It's a single-speed and I'd like to add gears to it, ideally by swapping off the single-speed freewheel, re-dishing the wheel and adding on the 5-speed freewheel I've got.

The problem is there's no lugs on the frame for the gear cable, particularly at the back for the derailer. It's not a problem at the top because my levers are clamp-ons, I can adapt something under the BB, but not sure what to do at the back. Any suggestions?

That's exactly what I thought, those dooofery thingys that go in the drop out...

I just couldn't remember what they were called. ;)

Yay! I won the bike on eBay!

It's a 531 Mixte style Raleigh. Looks to be running 27" wheels but I'm mainly interested in the frame and forks, so if they aren't straight or in good condition it's not a problem. Everything else is chrome on it so these bits and bobs won't look out of place. Cheers for the suggestions!

Plan is to keep it nice and vintage looking but to be able to go like stink ;)

No pics until after Christmas though. It's a secret Christmas present and I'm building it incognito at a secret location :D

I'm so excited :D
