help me identify this bike!

Hello, I've come across this bike locally but I need a hand identifying it, it's from the early 1970"s I think. Some decals on the down tube are faded but visible as 'type Criterium'. What do you think.
It's 531 tubing

For me it looks French, all French parts (as visible) if original.
I would place it a bit earlier, you might get the Simplex gear time line, and find when the earliest TA square cotterless was.
Also early Mafac brakes, before mid 60's.
Appears to be "Type criterium".

TA made square taper cranks from at least the early sixties, but the Pro 3-attaches model didn't appear until about 1970. Joe Metz puts it at 1969, and he knows his oignons:

I'd guess early seventies.
 
Peugeot used that M shape in the top of their forks in the late 70's. Things it has in common with my late 70's Pug are that, the shapes in the frame lugs, the lack of brazed on cable routing and the separate shifter mechanism.

Can't be sure it's a late 70's Peugeot but it's got a lot in common.

Do a search on Peugeot because someone recently posted all the back catalogue of their range and you can compare the close-up bits.
 
Looking at the MAFACs again I think I can see a tinge of red on the pivot bushes. From what I remember MAFAC used red nylon bushes from about 1964/5. Certainly before 1966. And the rear ends are not fitted by Peugeot, much too neat.
The pictures are very good, by no substitute for hands on.
