Dawes Celeste info request

Hi all

Picked up a Dawes Celeste yesterday and I'm looking for some info on it. I'll get pics up tomorrow, but it's the white/blue fade variety.

It's 531 tubing, fitted with flat bars, Stronglight (19?) Crankset, Weinman brakes and levers. Horizintal drop-out and what seems to be 5 speed rear gear changer on the downtube (indexed) alongside a friction 2 ring one for the front.

I've scoured the internet an can't find any mention of it. Anybody got a good link or any information.

What years was the production run?

Cheers

Mike

Reading between the lines of your description, I think my little brother had the same model.

The paint is blue/white fade, but it would originally have had a red and yellow panel sticker covering the faded sections to give the impression of sharp colour transitions. The bike would originally have come with a drop bar.

edit: like this:

The indexed shifter is probably six-speed (five clicks for six positions) and would have been matched to a Shimano Light Action rear derailleur.

Dawes tended to recycle their model names, and I've seen a Celeste from a much earlier period - fillet brazed with chromed decorative head tube rings. Yours dates from about 1987-88. You'll probably find a date code on the Weinmann brakes.

Thanks for the info. That's the bike, but as you say, mine's missing the red/yellow transfers. All other details correct.

Guess I'll need the start sourcing the missing parts now. Im hoping it's pre-'87 so I can enter next year's L'Eroica on it.

Cheers
