I've been given retro Cinelli handlebars and the 4 brake levers that went with them, but no cables. As far as I can see the cables from the Exage Motion levers go through another set of levers (which look like mtb levers) before going to the brakes.

I haven't ridden a road bike for years and haven't come across these before. Can anyone explain to an ignoramus how they work and how they should be set up.

They're called interruptors - like old style safety levers, but - erm - safer.

The brake cable is interrupted by the MTB style levers and then goes on to the normal levers.

That sounds like interuptor levers also known as cross tops.....commonly found on cyclocross bikes or tourers.............They are strange voodoo.....I had some on my Kona Jake and could never get my head around how they worked...I could see it easy enough, but they confused me.....

I am a bit knotlexic tho, and the cables throw me right off!!

Thanks for the info. Can anyone give me an idiots' guide to installing them properly, especially the bit that goes between main lever and interrupter lever ??
