Any suggestions on an easy way to remove old Brake blocks?

So I can do it but so far always involving way to much effort and brute force.

It's a set of very early old rectangular shaped Record blocks. Want to remove them from the shoes intact and keep them as their almost perfect. Replace with some Mathauser compound/Kool Stop ones.

spray the pad/holder interface with a bit of silicone, then clamp the sides of the pad (only!) lightly in a bench vice and push on the holder mounting stud. the combination of lube and compression from the vice usually will have them sliding right off...

Or drop them in some hot soapy water. Usually works for me.
