I'm about to start building up a 97/98 Raleigh Special Products cyclocross bike.
I'm finding it hard to decide what level of components it would have had when new.
I'm thinking 105 or Ultegra(i'm a Shimano man :D ). If I go this route can someone tell me what model numbers I need to look out for?
All help and advice is, as usual, gratefully recieved :D

Nice frame!

I'd go with ultegra 6500, released in 1998 IIRC and the first time ultegra had 9 cogs. Some give this ultegra some discrespect but I have a groupset purchased new in 98 still in active service on my winter bike.

Thanks John, I was thinking along those lines. Sods law I sold a lovely pair of 6500 mechs when I split my Quintana Roo :?
It looks like it will be dictated by the first piece of groupset I buy, followed by a search to find all the matching bits
