Touring frame, canti advice

I've just got hold of a '92 Dawes Super Galaxy (I think based on colour and part numbers). Its got the original Deore DX cantis on it. Not checked them to see if they're working properly but as everything else is getting stripped off is it worth replacing them with something new that will work better or has canti technology not really improved in 30 odd years?

The low-profile cantis are the worst, along with those taking post-mount pads. While they can work equally well, they need to be set wide with the straddle cable low. With thick pads the mechanical advantage falls off rapidly, with disappointing braking.
If it's the wide profile type keep them, otherwise I'd look around. Fitting modern thin V-brake style pads and holders saves no end of faffing about.

Re:

Thanks folks. Have ordered some and hopefully the newer model that has cartridge pads not blocks...
Expect a post in a week or so asking how you set them up properly.
