Hi
I 've got a blue frame from some time ago that is the flattened or aero version of the regular 979. Found some info on the net to what it seems was called lozenge or losange.... but I could not find if any particular team or rider used them during the mid 80's for example. Is this frame something very rare ?

Yes, that's very, very rare!

kohl57 off here did a pretty extensive blog post about Vitus 979s and their variants. It's well worth a read and the lozenge models are covered: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=393152

To my knowledge, the Vitus "Losange" wasn't used by any professional racing team. Indeed, the only photographic evidence I've found to date showing one of these aero models being raced was an "Arcor" (the really rare version with ovalised seat and down tube) by the Swiss Clio team in the 1982 Tour de France time trial.

The full article is here:

I've been looking for a "Losange" model in 58-59 cm for sometime and even have all the components in hand for an all French aero fit but fear I may have a long wait...

Thanks all for your reply and Peter in particular for the extensive article & work !!

I knew about it googling time ago when I was searching for this special tubing ... Lots of details, but I still need to go through it in detail to find out what exact model is mine. That's a task for the weekend ;)

Thanks again for the guidance here. I will post some pics and hopefully learn a lot !

Here there are some pics. Reading Peter's article , I understand it's not an Arcor but a Losange from April 1983 (serial F035346). Unfortunatelly it's a size 50, too small for me but for sure worth to spend a rainy Sunday cleaning it all ;). Any idea how much these frames go on sale ?

I had a hunch this would be a tiny frame. Maybe it's my frustration in sourcing one of these in 58-59 cm, but these invariably come up in small frame sizes, often really small. There is an "Arcor" model on eBay now that maybe a 52 cm. Hard to estimate value but less desirable simply because the size is less sought after. But this looks in good shape and with quality components.
