Moulton Speedsix

Retro Newbie
I found this, it's my Dad's, we're clearing some of his things and I'd quite like to make sure we don't throw out anything silly.

So far I can work out it's a Moulton speedsix and it was probably made in 1965?

I'm not sure if the handlebars and the seat are original looking at other photos I've googled, but I've got a feeling I've seen a moulton branded leather saddle and some drop handlebars somewhere in another of his garages which might relate to it. Or were there different options they came with which you could specify?

I believe some of them had bags which strapped on? Has anyone got photos so I can spot them if they turn up anywhere? I doubt that basket is original but who knows, maybe I'll check the date on the newspaper in the bottom of it!

Finally is there anywhere where the Moulton experts hang out? Other forums or Facebook groups etc.? Would be nice to find out as much as I can about it.

The Moulton F-frame group on Facebook might be a good place to start,

The Moulton Preservation Society: https://www.moultonbuzz.com/preservation/

They are all pretty helpful and will hoover up any nice examples rather than see them go on eBay.

The racing pedigree of the SpeedSix always attracts more interest than the more utility Standard/Deluxe/Stowaway models.
Yours is a real Series2 Speed Six, with the chainstay mounted derailleur and the gear lever on the head tube, not the Speed model, which was its poorer cousin.
Sometimes go for silly money, but don't get too excited: £1000! in terrible condition in July this year:https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Moulton-Spee ... 663.l10137

A bit of a clean up, new pedals, saddle and bars and it'll be as good as new.
Here are a few that have been restored: https://youtu.be/BvtjCOZyjq8

Bags, if you have them, should look something like this (or sometimes in tan, black and even red tartan):

All the best,

This is excellent, thank you very much for the resources which I've been trawling through and absorbing already. Sounds like Moultons could be yet another thing I can get really geeky about.

I've joined the F-frame group and I'll have a dig around in the garage to see if they can help me reunite the correct parts with it.

Thanks again
