How to remove old glue from tubular rims?

Hi all,

What would be the best way to clean up old tubular rims? I'm struggling with removing decades old layers of glue on a set of Mavics.

Re:

I always use a shallow pool of petrol in a tray type container , I`m sure I read it as a teenager in Steve Snowlings book ( former pro mechanic ) . I used the dirty petrol again in the lawnmower !

Petrol here. Mine went in the chainsaw or the moped. A bit of glue left on is no problem if its smooth.

That's good news. Red usually means shellac which along with tardigrades can survive a nuclear war!

Re:

I use White Spirit and a brass wire brush. Doesn't effect the anodising. Just finished one this weekend.

Heat gun to soften it, use the handle of an old spoon to scrape off the bulk, then wipe off any residue with a cloth soaked in thinners. Not recommended for carbon rims, but fine on alloy.

Meths ought to dissolve the old shellac stuff, no?
