After a low speed blow out on a Continental ultra sport beaded tyre ,I had a good look at the old weinmann rim{27X 1 1/4 rim} and found no apparent issues .{ie flat spots ,sharp edges, spokes poking though rim tape . I had pumped them to the correct pressure and checked the tyre was properly seated .
Iam i using the wrong type of tyre on the rim or is the an old rim v new tyre issue .
Any pointers would be great.

This thread left me none the wiser other than replacing the rims ?

I would have assumed the modern Continental tyre would have been 700c with a bead designed for a hooked / clincher rim?

The Weinmann rim of old would have been for a 27 X 1 1/4 HP tyre ?

Re:

Thank you for the replies gents .
Pads ok, thought I have fitted new ones since the blow out, maybe one of the old pads had caught the edge of the tyre as they were well worn.
The Continenals i fitted are a standard 27x 1 1/4 wired tyre .
I am not using a folding tyre .

Having had another good look at the tyre I think it is a manufacturing issue on the tyre. ie poor moulding.
