Any 731OS riders out there?

Came across a Cougar '731OS Race' this evening and bought it... Never owned a 731OS myself or seen too many about either.

Need to give it some TLC (stuck seatpost) but looking forward to thinking about what the hell to do with it! Too many bikes at the moment

Anyone else with this tubeset? Feel free to post up some details/pics :)

Re:

This is good stuff.

I have 2 bikes with this tubing, a Bob Jackson ( viewtopic.php?f=23&t=375875 ) and a Gazelle. The BJ frame is about 50 g heavier than a 753 I have, the fork a little over 30 g heavier (1809 and 706 for 58 cm), so pretty lightweight. The oversized tubes with 8 flats at the ends are supposed to be stiffer but not sure I would be able to tell. I find this a little softer at the front end, uses the same forks as 653. Quick, responsive, comfortable, a really good bike for long distance riding or light weight touring. I did a double end to end on the Bob Jackson and can’t think of any other bike that I’d undertake such a journey on.

The pinnacle of Gazelle’s steel bike building (ok, their most expensive) was their 731os Exception, which used stainless steel forks and stays. Here’s one with DA 7400. I don’t take it out very often but it is fast.

I once removed a stuck in seat post by using an open hacksaw, cut a wedge out the alloy,
then got some water pump pliers and crushed the post inwards, post easily slid out.

Seatpost out and built up as a fixed gear commuter for the time being. It now has brakes!

I think I will get this powdercoated and new decals as it rides superbly - it also deserves a Campagnolo groupset and decent wheels!
