Holdsworth Frame Numbers

Eric,

Re 69364 - interesting! 26.8 seat post implies 531 plain gauge and thus your # 69364 fits above catalog description for a "shop" Competizone Road model. As catalogue states they were built to defined specs and not customized, thus more likely to lay in stock.

As Kilgariff says often stock frames were built by outside builders. This fact would help explain different positioning of serial number 69364 across BB thus also pointing to an outside builder. The method assumed used by Quick is evidenced by your custom frame #69387 with numbers along non-drive side edge of BB.

Maybe same outside builder as "shop" frame K69357R speculated (by me) to be Charlie Roberts who was said to have built frames for shop although timing is unclear.

Doug

Thanks for the pictures, I'll add them to the list. Have you tried this site? I can't seem to enlarge the photos, but if you look at what model were around in the late 70's and look at the lugs etc this should help you confirm what it is. I can see you have cable guides on the top tube and the same on the BB. that can help narrow down the model and year.

Re: Another DBS Holdsworth

I Just picked up another DBS with Holdsworth frame for a friend today, we got it from the original owner's daughter who claims it was purchased in 1979. This fits well with the serial number 013144 and the date markings of March 1979 on the Shimano Dura Ace group. The bike is not a pretty sight but will be finished in due time for the Eroica Britannia next year.

Thanks for the number, I'll add it to the list. Interesting to see the Holdsworthy name on the decals. This number takes us to 499, one more to go to get to 500 numbers!

thanks Again, Now added to file. Would you mind sending some photos of the date stamp on the group set? I would be interested in seeing this and also thinking of adjusting the 6 Digit numbers slightly as I we now have a date for the Nuovo Records suggesting the would come earlier in 1982 that I have them and also this frame is charted too early in 1979.
