Coventry-Eagle Info

Dirt Disciple
Hi All,

I am new to this vintage bike scene and having just bought a Raleigh 531 competition bike (waiting to pick it up) I am eyeing up an old Coventry Eagle but know next to nothing apart from the fact that a metal (?) badge indicates an older, higher quality, frame and the foil badge a newer frame.

I think I have managed to upload two pics of the bike so would be grateful anyone can shed some light on it in terms of age, quality etc. I can't see any 531 decals so assume it is not a Reynolds frame, not that that is the issue.

Many thanks and apologies if these are newbie questions!

Typical of fairly low end mass production bikes of 60 / 70s.
There was very little market for top class road racer bikes back then.
In the 60s a bike like this would have cost about £25, a top road bike £70 to £80.

The market for these was schoolboy/teenager.

Edit: the handlebar stem looks dangerously high.

Looks like a 70's - 80's Coventry Eagle when they were a badge for the cheaper end of Falcon Cycles. The Maxy chainset may not be original but were a cheap step up into "cotterless" alloy chainset and we fitted them by the shedload .

Unless you want it for nostalgia I'd leave it on gumtree.....
