I picked up this bike a few months back. I like the look of it, particularly the lugs, but don't think it's a particularly high end model or made of 531 tubing.

I plan on making it into a single-speed and just sanded the frame and cleared up the rust spots to use as a base coat for my rattle-can respray in the same colour.

Does anyone have any idea of the model/year? Frame number on the rear dropout is 146313.

Looks like a Raleigh/Carlton about 1970. Has it 26 tpi octagonal head set and Raleigh bracket set?

The frame number using no letter prefix means 68-72 or thereabouts. The lugs are Crespera, but the frame is very similar to a later Mass Start 100. This dates the machine to the late 60s - early 70s. Could possibly be a Snipe Prestige.

These may be of help. The ranges were constantly being tweaked so really no year models actually stood still... Ill try and get some better pics when I can...

The head tube lugs have BCM and what looks like frame angles stamped on them. I thought that these were made by Bocama.

Yes, those are Bocama lugs, I had the same chrome head lugs on my 1972ish Carlton Criterium. Maybe same era as well, looks like a Sun Snipe variant - although they usually have a different lug set, not this crespera style
