Retro Newbie
Hello there, i have recently purchased a bike which i believe to be a peugeot . it has been painted but i am intending to restore it to original , can anyone help as to identifying the model . the frame minus bottom bracket weighs 2.0kg and is 54cm. there is a serial no. under the bottom bracket which as far as i can make out reads Y8090591 but i am not sure about the 5. i have taken the paint back in certain places and it appears to have been white originally. i will include as many pics as i can to aid identification . The groupset on the bike is shimano 600 6400 throughout except for the calipers which are golden arrow 105 . The dropouts are simplex .

Re:

Looks definitely Peugeot - design, drop outs, chrome, etc. Serial number fits. Looks like a 531 Pro fork, and they used 531 Pro in 1988. I've 2 of these frames, one from 1988 with serial number Y80745307. Memory hazy now but think this means built in 7th month of 1988. I have a PDF of the 1988 Peugeot catalogue but don't for the life of me know how to copy the relevant page and attach. The one featured had 105 groupset. One of mine weighs 1961 for frame and 704 for fork (56 cm size).

I think I could attach PDF to an e-mail - send me PM if you'd like me to try (am off tomorrow attempting Pyrenean Raid so might be a delay of a week or so).

Here's one of my 531 Pros, clearly showing chrome forks - ignore language of the Reynold's stickers - they used both French and English, even on the same bike, like mine. There are mixed views about 531 Pro but I really like these bikes and they are surprisingly tough. One of my sons 'borrowed' one of them to use as a university bike and he's bent wheels and broken mechs but the frame carries on impervious to harsh handling.

Great work, I'd normally have the handlebars rotated down a bit more and run the rear brake cable under the handlebar stem.
