what is this bicycle..........info needed

Re:

Typical club/racer bike of the late 1940s. Would be bought frame only, and gradually improved. Could be used for work, touring and sunday time trials. Bluemels wing nuts to allow easy removal of mudguards were typical.
Carlton made similar, but so could any bike shop with a few tools and some heat, no jigs required.

Hi, the 'C' in the serial indicates 1947/8 to 1951/2 I believe, this model was the startup model after the war, they did do a silver clubman into the 50's. The Flyer had a better lug set - modified chater lea I believe. So, this probably late 40's; come the fifties, Carlton were changing there models and lugs. Its still a lovely period piece, I shalt be getting mine on the road this winter ready for next year. Terry

In my lunch break today I removed the wheels and cut the tyres off and cleaned up the dynohub and found this stamped on it. I'm confused completely now as to what the bicycle is.

I've cleaned up the back of the hub and found stamped on the back number 5 1 . 2

How do I work out the date
