1980's Viking Triomphe

dvntie

Dirt Disciple
I've recently acquired a seemingly original one of these.
I'm at a loss however at finding a frame number so I can find out a bit more info.
Its a full campag top to toe and it seems like its had a very sheltered life. Reynolds 531 tubing also
Also finding it very hard to get info regarding 80's Viking bikes as all sites run up to the 60's
I'll post ome pics as soon as I get a chance
All info greatly appreciated

That is already looking like late '80s, still lugged.

Maybe this is even the bike you purchased.

They had a bit of a revival here in Ireland in the mid to late 80s.

Did I read somewhere they were made up north in Norn Iron or the UK at the time?

I remember a clubmate having a Viking Vision, which came with full 105 group and rigida rims, from memory.

I had heard that of the builds in Northern Ireland but couldn't find any further info. It would be nice if it were one of those builds as there weren't many of those made.

Re:

Id say it has to be one of the Derry made ones. One of the members of our club here, now sadly deceased, had one exactly the same. I think it must have been about the same size as well because he was only about 5ft tall.

It was my first introduction to Campag, we had only ever seen Suntour and Shimano up till that. I never looked back, I had campag on every bike till I bought a new Planet X last year with Sram 11 speed.

I remember stripping the whole bike down for him at the end of its first season and cleaning and polishing every part and the bike looked like it had just come out of the showroom again. The beauty of Campag, even the cheaper stuff like this.

I am only speculating here but i think i heard this in the local bike shop.....Triomphe groupsets were being made obsolete and viking did a deal with campag and brought out these bikes. Production bikes with campag on were like hens teeth in Ireland........

The following year Campag brought out Athena and I bought the sample groupset that was delivered to our local shop.
