I currently have a spring on the rear shock of my San Andreas which is too soft. However, there are no markings on it to tell me what rating it is to know what to replace it with... is there any other way of finding out what rating the spring is without proper equipment? I guess I can go by the diameter of the actual coils (the thicker the stiffer, I guess?)...but that's not very technical.

It's the medium/large one and no didn't have from new. It's a 2001 (10yr anniversary one) and I think the shock is the stock 'Aftershock' model with rebound compression adjustment (red knob). I bought it in 2006.

I have had this issue, not with a san anderas but my GT LTS

I needed the correct spring weight for my bulk and i found that TFT Tuning had a spring weight calculator that was very handy

They may be able to help and sell you the correct weight/stroke spring

The important things to know is the legnth of shock when uncompressed and the travel of the shock without the spring fitted which gives you the stroke

http://www.tftunedshox.com/springcalc.htm

this is the calculator that will tell you what spring you need.

hope this helps and makes sence.

good luck
