I'm looking for a spider to fit an XTR 952 crank arm. I'm sure that a spider & lock-ring from a suitable XT or LX chianset will fit but which incarnation of LX or XT should I look for?

I've got something similar to what's shown in the picture but it doesn't look as if the spider is removable. Any tips?

Pretty sure I have a LX spider/ outer ring somewhere if it sounds any good Ill have a look, nowhere near perfect though. The cheaper ones werent removable.

As long as it's straight it'd be fine, thanks. From the info I've read the spider needs to be from an Octalink chainset.
The picture is of an XT chainset. Maybe there was a difference between aftermarket and OE stuff?

Yep, the XTR 952 spider uses its own ring BCD. The XT/LX Octalink one should fit and then I can use normal rings.

The middleburn is a last resort as it's a bit pricey (although CRC have got it discounted). Not in a massive rush to get it sorted just need definitive info on what'll work.

Ah it'll need to be an M750 on, I think you have a picture of the M751 (or M752) and the spider is part of the arm.
or M570

-4 4 arm 104/64
-5 5 arm 94/58
-L 5 arm 110/74 (same as M95x-5 'HG' spider ?)

Has nothing to do with price or cheapness
M750 was only for one year before it moved on to M751 and the combined arm/spider.
M570 was a few years longer.

I will say, I've never had one, or any of the cranks of this era :D

Info from Shimano UK is as follows:

The XTR FC-M952 right hand crank uses a different pattern interface to the XT FC-M750 and LX FC-M569 model chainset adaptors - so are not compatible with each other.

I'm sure I've seen an XTR 95* chainset with an LX or XT chainset on this site. Perhaps I'd better try and track the photo down and ask the owner.

Thanks for all of the responses.

It shows as compatible (in fact the same), and why I assumed the others in that series where and why I added that I've never used it get out clause
