When the seat tube extends above the top tube and you need to insert to the minimum line on the seatpost, is it safe as long as a decent length of post will be below the top tube/seat tube junction? And is there any rule of thumb about how much a decent length is?

I think I know the answer but want to be sure!

(PS I realise the risk that I've taken with 'insertion' and 'decent length' in the same paragraph)

Yep, that's what I thought - but how far would be sensible, an inch or two?

I'd say as much as you've got :)

I think you'd be alright with an inch.

I work on 1" below top of top tube and at least 2.5" in the seat tube in anycase. The consequences of pushing your luck make your eyes water just thinking about it!
