1 inch steerer

SLIM

BoTM Winner
needing a 1" steerer for a set of pace forks

not willing to pay the £30 for one from pace , even if you can get one from them

so heres my idea , i have a long threaded steerer on a pair of cheapo forks , if i hack it off , and fit one of these stem shims ( see pic )

it is one of those that are used to fit to a 1 1/8 stem to a 1" steerer , so should be good for the type of forces put on it ( question 1 )

then i am going to get the steerer cut to size and get a groove lathed into it and ft an external snap ring

1 - will it be safe , basically the same as pace does ??

2 - have i missed something important ??

It's something Marzocchi did with the early bombers to drop them from 1 1/8" to 1"

Should be fine.

Doesn't sound like you need one but if you want a photo of an original, can take one for ya.

yes please

think i got it worked out in me head , but a pic allways helps ;)

got the 1 1/8 steerer so its only the shim i need a pic of , and how they go together

length of shim too please if you can

This should help
Forgot to say it is in MM
And the 3 is not the top flange it is the inner to outer measurement.
The top flange is 1MM.
