Teckie question, a sign of madness or cunning plan

I need to ask this question because I am having trouble finding a decent set of forks with a 1" steerer. Is it possible to join together different makes of stanchions and crown/steerer (as long as they are both bolt on). Is it possible that the centre to centre hole measurements in the crown are the same for all makes ?

just saw a mag crown w/tange legs go on ebay the other day.

i have a bontrager(rigid) crown with an IRD steerer and syncros legs...

double check all you measurements/ torque specs and have at it

Possible, but not probable. Stanchion diameter will also be a factor to consider.

The steerer hole tends to be size specific, a competent engineer could machine a shim to reduce the steerer size from 1 1/4" down to 1 1/8" or 1".

It's what Marzocchi did with their bombers when they first released it.

Going up in size would depend upon if the crown was designed to cater for all sizes, and just machined to the specific size.
