Gonna tread the trimble to a Chris King headset.
They make 2x 1" threaded types , a gripnut and a 2nut, but whats the difference :?:

hmm have been reading on the web site

http://www.chrisking.com/headsets/hds_gnut.html

the grip nut type says it is for loose threads, and cannot have cable hangers in between the two nuts,

I have a grip nut on the Yo, and the once the preload is set with the bottom nut, when the top nut tightens on the tapered grip nut you do not have to hold the bottom nut with a headset spanner , like a traditional two nut type.

the 2nut is normal style with seperate locknuts. the 2nut is held together with a collet & cannot be used with spacers or cable hangers, although they're considerably less prone to loosening. I have a few spares of both.

:) ahhhhh...... Think I'm going with the 2 nut then :!:

for spacers then can I just use the king ahead spacers or should I use bog standard steel (can you get aluminium) keyed spacers :?:

It is a new steerer and I dont wanna cut it down so much that it is no use to any other frame so popping a 1" spacer in would be best for me if I ever wanted to do so, plus the extra bar height might help my back out a bit.
