Hi all:

I'm thinking of getting another set of wheels for my '93 Brodie. Currently I'm running vintage 732 XT hubs laced onto a Campy Stheno front rim and some funky unknown rear rim (it had been replaced before I bought it).

Its been awhile since I had looked at vintage MTB kit and have been looking at Nuke Proof and White Industries, which seem to be reasonably period specific. The White Industries hubs seem to have good reviews and are nice and shiny but are pricy even used. However, the company appears to have stood the test of time. On the other hand, tHe Nuke Proofs look undeniably cool but have been savaged on mtbr.com for breaking easily and the company's belly up long time ago.

Any opinions here?

Thanks!

Nuke Proof are the coolest / worst hubs on the market ( except the latest, the ones with the badges )

Despite I´m a great fan of Nuke Proof ( 3 set of them ), go for the White Industries, unless you get a pair of the latest Nukes.

Have a look at this:

Thanks!

The ones I'm considering appear to the badged variety on Mavic 217 rims. Near mint the seller says. Seems $$ at $270 US. Also have an option on White Industries (?titanium..seller's not sure but says a magnet doesn't stick) on Mavic 517 rims. About the same price but condition is more used. I'm lured by the look of the Nukes but they appear dodgier than the Whites.

I'll continue to hem and haw...... :)

Whites clean up beautifully but the rear hubs tend to develop lateral play pretty quickly for some reason.

yes...one those threads is mine :D

with badges

picked up a set of these laced to mavic 517s...good wheels....harder to come by than the white industry hubs. I also agree with Sancho, the rear white industry hub tends to start making strange sounds with play quicker than one would expect.
