Titanium frame repairs (info req'd)

does anyone know who to contact for a small reweld job on my titanium frame?
an idea of the likely costs involved would be good too.

Possibly Omega down on the south coast as a specific bike company, or any local engineering company could do (I know that a number of engineering companies who specialise in aircraft can do, and so do some motorsport/wheelchair sport ones just to broaden the horizons a little).

There was a post awhile back about getting a ti frame repaired by a mate on STW. It started as a small crack on the chainstay and after the 'welding' was a huge hole
No help to you, but make sure they know what they're doing

Gaf16,

We ran through the Ti repair issue once before...after a bit of searching I found the info.

http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewto ... c&start=30

It's Adams thread on some TI P2's which by page 3 digressed into a discussion on the good/bad of repairing TI.

As a bit of advice, make sure that you have a qualified bicycle fabricator do the repair, even if it is a bit less convienient/more costly...it'll save you in the long run.

cheers,

rody

rody,

thanks for the info.
the frame i have has already been repaired.
the guy i brought it off says it was done by a frame builder.
i'm not sure this is true though!
i have a pic and, if you pm me your e-mail addy i'll send it to you.
i would really appreciate your opinion.
regards,

gaf16.

hey gaf (again!)
im 99% certain that vernon barker in dronfield, near chesterfield was able to repair / weld ti. my drop out hanger snapped on my xizang years ago (was eventually replaced by GT) and he was recommended by various other people as one of the few who could do the work if needed.
im not certain that his shop is still going tho?

Perhaps this is one for the FAQs page? Recommended Ti welders, Alu welders, painters (a certain French chap might get a glowing mention here perhaps), decal makers etc

In still haven't heard anybody in the UK really has the reputation to do the job...

At least there's nobody here in blighty that I'd trust to do any work on my two ti ibises and so far I haven't saved up the cash to send them to Steve Potts to add disk tabs... one day one day. Both bikes are not garage queens and have 'wear' on chainstays.

I've seen some fugly ti work on gorgeous frames which completely devalued them imho.

Be wary mate and make sure you see examples of their work before ruining a bike.

mate in brighton just got a custom ti frame from Omega, very nice tri frame built to measure, i'm sure they could do it.
