Cranks/Rings Question (thickie content!)

Hi folks,

I've just acquired an XTR chainset excluding rings M952 (5 bolt spider)

The measurement is supposed to be PCD: 110/74 what does this mean in the real world.......CD?

Help, very confused!

110 bcd - bolt circle diameter= olde worlde MTB

94 bcd - new fangled 'compact drive'

So I should be able to find rings then :?

Funny though as the crankset is circa 1999 and my trusty 1999 STX RC is CD.

How's the hand?
