'extended' forks....ein???

Whilst on the bus passing On Your Bike in London Bridge this afternoon I saw a Kona Fire Mountain with a pair of forks that had the lower bearing race further up the steerer tube. Forks were more or less same style as a P2, just with the bearing race an inch or so further up, rather weird I thought. Looked rather odd.

Just rambling on here.....
 
they;re suspension adjusted & look horrible specialized did a similiar direct drive fork a few years ago. rather than changing the fork blade, they just add a longer fork steerer, with the fork legs starting an inch or so below the crown race.

I've got a set of them on my touring bike and yes they do look a bit ugly. However they do provide a handy place to mount a front light underneath my bar bag.
Practical but not too pretty.

There's much uglier things in the 'work bikes' thread though...
