Hi guys currently doing a refurb but need to source some new chainrings for my Shimano STX Cranks. The old ones are totally shot, teeth missing, etc.

I've had a look on eBay but am baffled by the sizing.

The current knackered chainrings are K series K-42, K-32, K-22. Can't find matching spec even on Google

The cranks are 5 arm, 5 bolt, pic below

Will be looking to get 9 speed compatibility out of the cranks.

Really would like to keep this crank arms as they are nice and shiny

On some models of STX cranks, the middle ring was used to carry the granny. If you have one of those and want to use your cranks as a triple, you'll need to source one of those rare STX or STX-RC middle rings.

There was more than one version though. See my posts to the thread here for more information:

If you don't need a granny chainring, standard 94mm bcd rings (say 30t and 42t) will give you a nice double, or you can run a single chainring, of course.

If your crank has granny ring mounts, they're standard 58mm bcd.

Very briefly (I think for one year) they actually ran a different PCD on STX - it was only by a couple of mm. If you are unfortunately to have one of these, then you will be stuck.

I'd missed that.

Here you go - 1994:

STX and Alivio use a 95mm bcd for the outer ring!

Luckily that's not what Gadro's got.

I have the original type - they look normal, until you take them apart!

58mm BCD middle ring, 95mm outer ring that bolts directly to the middle ring... wrong on so many levels.

I'm hoping they become collectible one day

Here's a pic of before and after I gave them a good cleam. Outer Ring although nice and shiny is slightly pitted. Want to keep the original look not too fussed on flashy anodised outer rings.

Want to keep it nice and simple and original.

+1 this is exactly what I was going to say. Have a feeling that may have been the steel chainringed STX cranks though not the STX RC. The first year of STX only the RC stuff had changeable rings.
