SS chain tension.....do you go up or down?

When I fitted my DMR tensioner, the instructions advised up is best. Yet when I look at the majority of SS builds on here you all seem to go down.

When going up, obviously more of the chain is wrapped round the sprocket. But, going on the majority here, when CRC (hopefully) send me a replacement should I be thinking down is best???

Comments/advise please!

Down makes it a lot easier to get the wheel out on my old Ali O SS.

Up made it nearly impossible.

When using a singulator I found UP gave the best chain wrap etc and never had any problems with removing the wheel.

"The only way is up, baby!" - or (since you have rim brakes) build a wheel on a White Industries Eno hub and do away with the tensioner.
Or use a Trickstuff or Performance Products EBB.
Tensioners defeat a lot of the SS advantages anyway, as they collect mud, branches and stuff nearly as much as a rear mech does, and make noise too.

Surley down under correct tension is no different to a normal mech? Noone seems to be worried about chain wrap with geared bikes?? :?
