Bright lights, big city, clear night. Leave the metropolis behind and head for the hills. Cx bike ready. Warm up on the road before dropping into the woods and out towards ‘ManCave’. Call in but the boys have gone. Head up onto the downs. So still and calm, I spend 5 mins just staring out into the darkness and imagining I could be anywhere. The shimmering lights of Little Isengard (twinned with Littlehampton 
) are the only evidence of Humans visible out here tonight. Head up to the farm and climb the gates (closed for shooting). Ride fast up the hill shouting ‘Not a f*cking rabbit” yet again. Don’t get shot. See friends before getting on the train back home. 16miles of cold, clear, peace. Best ride of my life.
