Unknown Frame and Forks

Old School Grand Master
I've had this a while and even had it powder coated in red but damned if I can remember what it is. It's not as large than it looks. The head tube is 150mm but the seat tube only measures 18.5" C to T.
Any ideas? I'm thinking Dawes Edge???

I thought a Dawes Edge was a singlespeed?

Not back then. The name dates back to at least 1987/88. It was their top of the range full XT bike. It was the only one in the range that had QR wheels too. My second from the top Wildcat had bolt on wheels.

is that something stamped into the bit where the seat stay meets the seat tube?

It might say Dawes! All I can tell is that it has the right number of characters.

try a bit of brass rubbing :D

Good idea. Done that and am pretty sure I can make out 'Dawes'. If I try really hard, I'm sure I can remember a tatty dark purple paint job possibly with a fade? The tubes 'ping' nicely and look like they date back to the "Let's oversize everything" phase of mountain bike history in the early 90s. Headset is 1.125"

don't know if this helps but my Dawes has the double panier mounts on the rear drop outs
