Hi...

Bought some bombers and trying to confirm identification before renovation.

They are badged as flylight 100 from 2001.

Decals are all uniform and appear genuine. Stanchions have 98 embossed on one leg and 99 on other. I’m guessing this means they were manufactured in 1998 and 1999. The brace has 99 on the back.

They appear to be original colours but the black has been repainted and whoever did so used gloss paint and painted around the decals. One of the pics attached shows where I’ve peeled a decal away and beneath is a black pearlescent with a metallic fleck. I’m guessing this is standard factory colour?

Can anyone confirm I’m correct???

Ie 2001 100mm flylights and parts branded would have been manufactured 98/99 before assembly and sale.

Am I correct re colour for this year (2001) and lastly what are thoughts on sandblast and powdercoat or am I best off just stripping the black away and wet painting them, polishing the silver stanchions and fitting new decals?

Any help and suggestions appreciated.

I’m obviously gonna replace seals and service them when I locate a service kit.

Cheers
Andy

Update...

The black paint comes off easy with wire wool.

I recon these are 1999 model with completely silver polished stanchions...
Model anyone?

Two different years? My Z2 have the same problem with the bottles . I thought it was a Frankestein fork made of two or more forks but yours have the same problem ...

Re:

Not much response but I have deduced that the decals are original due to quality and precision of placement.

These are 2001 fly lights which have simply had the black paint repainted over at some point. When rubbing the black down I’ve exposed the original paint with sparkle effect which is also evident beneath decal in the black area. Beneath that paint is white primer so happy that I’ve solved this. Think that although they were sold as 2001 model, the parts were most likely sat in warehouse for year or two.

Now to service them and fit new seals and reproductive decals I’ve sourced from Gil M at the cycle shed.

Re:

Probably just using up the old legs as they moved over to the M-arch style.
Same colour and sparkle as my 99 Superfly even if mine have air valves in them.

Re:

Thanks. Yeah I’m gonna strip the black paint and probs re do them in off the shelf Skoda black magic which is the colour of my Octavia VRS and the paint is almost identical to the true bomber colour with the flecks in it. There’s maybe just a few extra blue flecks on the bombers.

Once rebuilt I’ll put a link on to the build thread when they are on the bike

Gil M is supplying me decals and need to order some seals from here...
