In 1978 Gary Fisher, Joe Breeze, Wende Cragg, Mike Castelli and I all drove 1000 miles to Crested Butte, because we heard they were into the same stuff we were. It turned out that they weren't, but as soon as they saw the new bikes from California, they jumped all over the concept.
This year being the 40th anniversary, a lot of people wanted me to join them in CB for a big celebration. I told them I couldn't afford it, and they immediately crowdfunded the ticket, so I will be traveling with Joe Breeze and his son Tommy. Tom Ritchey might make it in. Gary Fisher already had other obligations.
Long before I ever had anything published, I still wrote stories, so here is what I wrote when I got home from that amazing adventure 40 years ago.
