Rock Shox Super Deluxe 1999 model (How to disassembly ?)

Hi all,

First of all, I am a very very newbie here and also on retroMTB DIY projects!

I apologize if I post in the wrong place, just let me know.

My problem is the following, I am rebuilding an old GT LTS and bought a Super Delux for it (instead of original Coupe Delux)
This Shox came from a Voodoo bike which use a totally different mounting system on the frame.

So, I expected to mount the GT LTS trunnion pretty easily but NOT! It seems that I have to completely disassemble it to screw trunnion on it ?

Questions are:
Am I right ?
How to do it?
Is it easy for a non specialist/ do you recommend to do it myself ?
Which very specific tools required ?

So far, I was able to remove the spring, but Red adjuster is blocked by small red adjuster tube (I removed the knob of course and fully turned it CW).
Trunnion will be blocked also by this remaining tube.

So, I am sure expert on this Forum already did it ?

You should be able to wind the red adjuster in, then unscrew the nob. This should leave you the room to remove the spring, collar and trunnion.

If the adjuster has snapped inside the shaft, that could cause it not to screw in far enough and it should unscrew easily. If you need to use any force, it's not snapped.

This has worked for me on my sts. If you want a freshly serviced super deluxe I have a couple, plus a few other working super deluxe shocks.

Thanks for your quick reply.
Well... I turned fully clockwise the red damper adjusting knob, then I removed the central screw (with a 2mm Allen wrench) to release the knob itself.
Then, I was able to remove the spring but neither red adjuster ring nor trunnion have space enought to pass.
Even when I turn the red damper adjusting screw at maximum it is really blocked by the adjuster rod (that it sets-up).

-> I think to go with brute force will just damage either the red adjuster screw or the ajuster rod or both!

-> I really don't know how you managed to do it this way, because it means that your rod should be able to move up a lot/too much like when the Shox is open!?

What do you think ? I really don't want to do it wrong and damage anything.

Any advice, ideas...
