My retro commuter will be in need of a new transmission soon, just ordered a pile of £4 KMC Z8 chains from Wiggle. Already got an 8 speed rear wheel / cassette and I have some shifters somewhere - but I am hoping the current STX SE rear mech (*not* STX RC which would probably work fine) can cope with a wider cassette - or do I need a new one?

Normally you will be fine - just occasionally there is a problem on a frame with very thick dropouts.

Dont forget to adjust the reach screws so it covers the whole cassette.
