Will a road 6500 combined lever 3x9 operate deore 3x9 Mtb mechs and deore v mtb brakes?

I'm bored and have some bits floating around. Thinking of abusing this:

9 speed and below Shimano road levers should "just work" with the equivalent MTB derailleurs (or vice versa).

Same holds for SRAM at least as far as X7.

As noted, though, it desn't hold for braking - you'll need cantis, mini Vs, or road-specific cable actuated disk calipers.

Not so fast.
The rear should shift perfectly.
However for front the mechs have a different leverage (cable pull etc). You can use an MTB front mech clamped on the wrong side of the bolt to correct things, or of course a road front, assuming your cable runs are OK.

Re:

You could make the brifters shift the v-brakes if you buy some problem solvers to take up the extra cable. Otherwise, cantis it is.

I think you would need to go with a road front mech and a road triple to get the brifter to shift the front. Or you could just use a bar end on the front and only use the brifter on the rear.
