HED DH and XC rims

Hi all,

I was hoping someone could tell me what the difference is (aside from spoke count) between the XC and DH versions of the classic HED rims?

XC had a brake surface, DH were disc only. DH also came in a plain rim with no carbon.

These are the DH ones I'm talking about, they also came on some Yeti Lawwill DH4 and DH6 bikes.

The original HED decals were white so not sure if the downhill stickers are inline with HED's branding. Is it the rim width that's different? I have the disc only ones & the rim is about 50mm wide. Enough to pull all but the widest of tyres into a daft profile.

Hey,

I'm assuming it's a width thing. My understanding is the XC version used a Sun XC rim with the HED carbon fairing attached so I don't know if the DH version uses a Sun Rhyno rim or something wider.

Downhill was obviously heavier but I'm not sure what rim was used. I know the disc only rims were HED's own design but not sure about the rim brake ones. Anyone out there who can provide a comparison?
