Fecked star fangled nut -- what to do?

So, I got a bit lazy, and decided to stick the RC36's on The Boy's Zaskar yesterday. There was already a star fangled nut in the fork steerer, and it looked in okay nick.

Annoyingly as soon as I torqued down the top bolt, something in the nut gave, and the bolt just spins. Don't seem to be able to undo it.

So, any advice on how to get it out before I resort to 'Jeremy', my big hammer?

To make things worse, I think there may be a second nut stuck in the steerer too...

Think I'd be tempted to just bash both of the b*ggers out and start over again with a new SFN...... :?
That's what I'm thinking, though I think I need to find a decent metal rod. Not making much headway with 10mm dowel!

Any special technique? Or just rest the fork crown on the sides of a workbench and bash it as hard as I can?!

Can you see light through the hole in the middle :?:

If you can I may be able to offer a solution, if not is the steerer alloy :?:

No light as the stem cap and bolt are attached!

Last time I bashed one out I used a socket wrench extender bar and a hammer. I just kept tapping until it came out of the bottom. And by tapping I mean beating it with some force. If there are really 2 in there it will definitely take some extra persuasion.
