Retro Newbie
Hi
Im a bit out of touch with bikes now days i have a 1996 Marin Nail Trail, which needs a new chain set, it currenly has the original which is a white Industries 42/32/22
Does anyone now a suitable replacement for this.
Hope someone can help

Hi, what exactly is wrong with the chainset? are the actual arms damaged or is it just the chain rings which are worn? If its just the chain rings then you just need to replace them, still plenty of options for you to choose from, and if its the arms themselves which need replacing, then you can pick up an lx or xt crank fairly cheap.

Re:

Hi Mark
I would say it was just the chain rings.
If anything just the outer ring.
Have you got a recommendation
Mid range

Cheers for your help

Re:

If the drive train is worn, it's best to replace the whole lot, rings, cassette and chain. If you mix new components with worn, the new parts tend to wear quicker to match the worn parts.

It's best to check: http://www.wolftoothcomponents.com/page ... ameter-bcd, but it's likely that if your chainset is 5 bolt that the outer rings are 110mm BCD and the inner 74mm. Spa do some nice rings for a good price: http://www.spacycles.co.uk/m2b0s210p0/P ... nrings-Spa

8 speed cassettes and chains are readily available and pretty cheep:
