I bought what appears to be a 90's Focus Rock Springs 7 speed MTB the other day for my brother. It was on Gumtree here in Australia and I paid 52 pounds for it ($90Au). It has mostly STX RC components except for the front hub which is STX and the replaced brake levers are Alvio I think. The seller said the frame was aluminium, but it looks chromoly to me.

It needs work. The chain and cassette need replacing at least. I think the chainrings haven't much life left either. I forgot to check the brakes which weren't cantilevers- they were those other ones. I can't tell you much more about it as I just looked at it and had a quick ride. It couldn't shift into the top 2 or 3 rear cogs and the brakes badly needed adjusting. I could tell it was a nice ride though. It is very similar to my 1996 Trek with full STX.

Good buy? Does anybody know anything about 90's Focus MTBs?

My very first real m/b was a Focus (late eighties) - great bikes. Not a collector's value, but worth repairing back to a good and functional riding condition.
