Pace RC35 steerer questions

Hi, can someone please give me a quick tutorial on Pace RC35 steerers or point me towards somewhere that explains them? I've had a search but can't find anything definitive.

Issue is thus:

I have a set of earlyish ('93-'94) RC35s with a non threaded steerer that I assumed was a 1"1/8. It's certainly not 1". Popping a 1"1/8 crown race on them and it flaps about, certainly not the tight fit you need.

Having a look through the manuals I can find and bits on here it seems to suggest that there should be a crown adaptor shim thingamy that slides onto the bottom of the steerer and then the crown race sits on that. Is that correct? Mine certainly doesn't have such a thing and looks like this (apologies it's so dark).

I see that Pace still sell what I think is required via their ebay store (although the ones for 1"1/8 are out of stock), and also intrincycle makes them as well, also on ebay. Finally there is a 1"1/8 steerer and what I think is the piece on ebay too at the moment. Links below.

So, have I got that right and I just need that crown spacer thing or am I being really stupid? Any tips gratefully received.

Re:

Yes, whereas other steerers swage out a bit at the bottom and allow the crown race to fit tightly, Pace steerers are just straight tubes, so you'll need a crown race adapter/shim.
I think Rampage on here does them. Or you can find them on eBay.

Excellent thanks, that confirms it! As it happens someone on here has been in youch as he has a spare! Got to love the place.
