I thought this tapered seat tube business didn't start this low down the range....?? And it seems to be decent tubing, as in butted, was it only in later years that the FM was more of a budget bike?

Anyway, pics, sure someone will be along to tell me in a mo....

I've a 93 FM, and it too has butted/flared tubing; the seat tube flares at the BB same as higher models of the year.

IMO, there were no low-rent Kona frames back then, even their cheapest were decent.

I had a fire mountain also with the tapered flared seat tube so quite common. Bizarely I also had a Carerra that also had this feature and the whole frame looked remarkably similar to a Kona, maybe made in same factory to a common design.
