Build Advice - Which Frame Mongoose vs Shogun

Hey Everyone,

I have a Mongoose All Terrain Sycamore 1990, which is double butted Tange frame with 4130 Chromo forks.

Versus

Shogun Prairie Breaker Team Issue XTR 19934ish, which is 7000 Alloy frame made in Japan with very early Marzocchi Forks.

I am looking to turn one into a rigid XC machine, will be 1 x 10 set up.

Just wondering which one is worth while restoring and which would offer the better ride. Leaning towards the Shogun which was a $2,000 bike purchased new while the Mongoose was entry level but I can't seem to tell the difference between the Sycamore frame and that of IBOC frames (except the Tange Prestige tubing model)

Mongoose frame & forks, with parts from the Shogun would make a great rider IMHO.

Having owned a similar era Mongoose, and the same model Shogun Team XTR, I would say put the Shogun parts on the Sycamore. The steel Team Issue Shoguns circa 89-92 or so are lovely bikes. The aluminium Team XTR is a bit of an orphan, it's heavy for aluminium, dead in feel, the handling is pretty average and I ended up snapping the headtube off mine in short order.
