Hi,

Can anyone help identify this frame? I think its a Sunn. Only one sticker on it that says "Fuji Stout Light Cr-Mo Butted Tubing" Should be some pics attached.

Many Thanks

Will.

I'm not a specialist on sunns before 97, but I see the Revolts had Stout light tubing years 95 and 96.. but ritchey dropout..?? only sunn with ritchey dropout 97-99 was the steel exact, and those had columbus tubing.. my revolt gp 98 has some standard Sunn dropouts

We've discussed this over fb messenger and I was thinking that stout light was a kind of prestige/531 equivalent. Is that right?

Re:

Fuji Stoutlite frames were available from all manner of shops and manufacturers, not just Sunn. Places like Heffs bike shop, Merlin and others sold them. Solid frames

Should have said, later on Merlin sold them badged as Rock Lobster Expert FS (Fuji Stoutlite). All of these frames, the ones sold by Heffs and countless others had this brushed nickel plate.

Word of caution, the nickel plate is quite hard and these frames have a habit of rusting from the inside out and because the nickel plate is so tough you won't know until the steel under it has been totally eaten away and a massive crack or hole appears. Keep the frame dry and do an occasional shake test to see the extent of internal rust.

Re:

I'm pretty certain this isn't a Sunn. The canti bridge would put it at 96 or earlier for a Sunn, but the cable routing is wrong for that - Sunns of that vintage have the cables on the side of the top tube, not along the top. It would also have a hole drilled in the centre of the headtube for fixing the headtube badge and the model name engraved in the BB shell. I also agree with Biocandy's comment about the drop outs and pete_mcc's about the availability of Fuji SL frames.

Re:

Hi,

Been having a good look round the frame and it is apparent it needs some protection on the inside (nothing serious). I will get the serial number off it tonight, I think it starts with YM. Any further ideas would be greatly appreciated as I would like to get some frame decals for it at some point.

Many Thanks

Will.
